When you consult an ayurvedic physician he will evaluate the Prakriti, Vikruti and dosha imbalance of the patient. Accordingly, he prescribes the herbs to be used in medicating the buttermilk. This treatment is done during the early morning of the day. The patient will be asked to lie down (for Shirodhara) or sit (for Sarvanga Dhara) on a wooden cot comfortably. When they lie down a pillow will be placed beneath their neck. Then the lukewarm medicated buttermilk will be poured on the forehead or on the whole body of the patient. The takra will be collected again and poured into the vessel without interruption. This procedure will go on for 30 to 45 minutes. Massage will also be done after this. Normally, they will do a mild massage of the head which will provide relaxation from the physical standpoint. There will be an uninterrupted flow of buttermilk above the forehead. Though this procedure is similar to shirodhara but takradhara cannot be boiled. Once this treatment gets over the patientís head will be wiped with Amalaki Kwatha apart from warm sponging. Then the patientís head will be dried. Therapists will apply Rasnadi powder on the head as it has the power to fight against the virus that will initiate cold or cough. This treatment will be done for 7 to 14 days based on the severity of the disease and each session will go up to two hours.
